Dimic™ XYZ. A work horse for demanding industrial Microscopic applications.
Concept
In industry there are numerous microscopic applications related with a specific arrangement of optical-, mechanical-, sample and automation aspect. Once purchased the user is conned with the boundaries of the specific instrument. Add on accessories have to be purchased to fill the needs of the user. Most of the Microscopy suppliers develop the technology around a static application where the user has to be creative to enhance throughput once a method becomes routine. Developing automation around a static configuration is an engineering nightmare. In our team we have listened to the voices of our customers.
The general consensus is that demanding users wants to have a workhorse which can handle practical all conventional microscopic analysis and still has the capability to change to a higher throughput mode. As work load of most industrial labs is ever increasing the Micro-Optik group has developed a way out! In our concept we can train the XYZ to carry out various tasks based on modular application configurations. More like a robot who knows what to do when a specic analytical module is placed in. With our high precision motorized stands we can automate practically all conventional handlings. In addition for applications where more than one point of a specific sample has to be measured, the XYZ has clear advantages.
Our system can easily perform such tasks because the inherent design is made for this. We have received positive experiences from our clients as they acknowledge their need to enhance throughput of their conventional analysis. We would like to relay our experience with customers who have specific needs in automating their specific Microscopic applications.
Liquid Analyzer:

Ideal configuration for Tri vector Machine Health (lubrication/oil) Microscopic method.
Allows identification of wrong or mixed lubricants. Oil inspection sampling system consists of a Graduated cylinder filled with oil. A mass balance, tubing, a microscopic feed through optical sampling cell, a liquid pump and a waste container. In the graduated cylinder a dielectric constant probe is placed. Through the liquid sampling cell the oil can be inspected on particles nature and characteristics.
ISO-18553:2002
Ideal configuration for ISO-18553:2002 Microscopic method (for the assessment of the degree of pigment or carbon black dispersion in polyolefin pipes, fittings and compounds).
Various microtomed plagues are placed on a glass plate. The glass plate is placed on a sample holder. Below sample holder is LED plate. Above sample a relevant lens is mounted and through Mimas software a complete glass plate can be scanned and the results of the analysis is reported conform the ISO method. The XYZ platform is extremely useful for enhancing throughput of analysis.
Gel Characterization:

Ideal configuration for gel inspection. Gels in a film can be analyzed through XYZ topography features. Also gels can be analyzed by means of hot stage microscopy. For the last method the stage is positioned under the microscopic probe head. Through 3D inspection of the variable rotation head the structure and nature of the gel before melting can be studied and related to the origin of the gel. Hence the platform can generate a wealth of information useful for root cause analysis in the plant.
Topography of samples:

The unique feature of the XYZ and the sophisticated image analysis package MIMAS allows samples to be scanned in almost any possible way. Depending on add on accessories MIMAS can create superb high quality images of surfaces of imperfections and all possible artifacts the user is interested in to determine the critical to quality parameter. Micro-Optik group has proprietary 3D DFD techniques to superpose images recorded at various high positions and to combine to one unique 3D visualization.
